Problem:
Your computer becomes unresponsive after trying to open a PDF file from the internet or email.
Solution:
First, exit all programs, then run:
Start->All Programs->Mosaic XP->Mosaic XP Utilities->Adobe Reader
Doing this should reset the users Adobe Reader settings for the new version that is installed on Mosaic.
After you run Adobe Reader, then they may close it.
If doing this causes your problem to go away, then you are done.
Otherwise:
You probably have an Adobe Reader configuration that is not correct under their AFS account files.
One of these folders contains the incorrect configuration for Adobe:
To find the right folder, you need to work from the most probable folder that would contain the invalid config, to the least probable.
You do that by working your way back from the deepest folder.
In this case, start with: “h:win_dataApplication DataAdobeAcrobat10.0″
If that folder doesn’t fix the problem then we work with the next “higher-up” folder.
In this case, use: “h:win_dataApplication DataAdobeAcrobat”
If that folder does not fix the problem then we work with the next “higher-up” folder.
In this case, use: “h:win_dataApplication DataAdobe”
For each folder level, rename your test folder to a backup name. Then run:
Start->All Programs->Mosaic XP->Mosaic XP Utilities->Adobe Reader
Then close:
Adobe Reader
Then test IE, or Outlook to see if it can view a PDF, or print a PDF without crashing.
If you have tested every folder level and IE or Outlook still can’t view or print a PDF, then you’ve got a bigger problem somewhere. In this case, the problem is probably with the machine itself and you will need to contact a Mosaic TA to assist you with the next step.
